Lancaster Group was formed as a private equity group by Nurlan Kapparov, Berik Kaniyev and Yuriy Pak. The three shareholders who have been close friends for more than 20 years, have joined their efforts in the establishment of the group by pooling their assets and bringing substantial experience and expertise. Lancaster Group's primary objective was to create value by expanding the scope of its businesses and building portfolio of legacy assets.

March 2003
Lancaster Group purchased a tin mining company, Syrymbet JSC and started exploration works and researches for cost-effective tin processing technology.

April 2003
Lancaster Group acquires IPNet JSC, one of the leading VSAT satellite network operators in the Russian Federation. Founded in 2000, IPNet operates its own Central Control Satellite Station in Moscow. A certified provider and integrator of the Hughes Network Systems (HNS), IPNet offers a wide range of services in telephone communications and corporate data transmission systems. It provides access to the Internet and multiple IP-applications, creates multi-media systems and supplies telecommunication equipment. IPNet also designs, builds and effectively administers communication gateways.

May 2003
IPNet participated in the international exhibition of telecommunications and computers SVIAZ-EXPOCOMM. The company also provided connection services to its first customers through on-line data transmission system PES5000, telephone communication systems TES Quantum-Direct and hybrid multi-service systems HES. IPNet’s services have now reached 69 regions of Russia.

September 2003
ERSAI Caspian Contractor LLC was formed as a joint venture between local company ERC Holdings and Italian Saipem. Early works on the construction of a yard have begun with the yard investment totaling $6 million.

October 2003
KazInvestBank (KIB) is acquired by new shareholders and appoints Erkeblan Okaev as Chief Executive Officer. A new strategy is set to develop a commercial bank rendering a full range of services to corporate clients throughout Kazakhstan.
